Sylhet Division v Dhaka Division ? National Cricket League ? Match Update
An intense bowling effort from Tapash Baisya played a vital role in enabling Sylhet Division to claim a comfortable 10-wicket win over Dhaka Divison, in their first-class match during the ongoing National Cricket League, played from November 9 to 12 at the Sylhet Stadium in Bangladesh.
Sylhet Division won the toss and decided to field first ? their bowling attack was led by the experienced Tapash Baisya (14.1-5-37-6), with Nazmul Hossain (7-6-1-2) and Abu Jayed (11-2-36-1) chipping in with supporting performances. Together, they triggered a complete batting order collapse, with only three batsmen contributing double-digit scores ? Abdul Mazid (24), Shuvagata Hom (22), and Mohammad Sharif (12) ? and the Dhaka Division finished all out at a dismal 84 on the first day of play.
Dhaka Division attempted to make amends with their bowling performance, featuring Mohammad Sharif (30-8-94-3), Nazmul Islam (10-1-44-3), Shuvagata Hom (10-2-33-2), and Mosharraf Hossain (29-3-103-2). However, centurions Rajin Saleh (132) and skipper Alok Kapali (133) anchored Sylhet?s innings, and while the rest of the batsmen in the line-up were not able to score much, the massive contributions by the duo ensured that the team reached a sizeable total of 390 before they were all out on the second day.
Dhaka Division attempted to make a comeback during their second innings, with Mosharraf Hossain (76), Shuvagata Hom (57), Mohammad Sharif (43), and Saikat Ali (40) making valiant attempts to steer their team towards a competitive total. However, their efforts were not supported by any of the remaining batsmen in the line-up, and they were eventually thwarted by Enamul Haque jnr (35.4-14-57-5) and Abu Jayed (19-3-77-2). The final day saw Dhaka Division all out at a disappointing 307, setting the Sylhet Division a meagre 2 run target.
Predictably, Sylhet did not face any trouble in the chase, with Imtiaz Hossain smashing a six to propel his team to an easy 10-wicket win over the Dhaka Division. The victory marked Sylhet?s first win in the ongoing competition, and propelled them to the second spot on the tournament points table. Meanwhile, Dhaka Division, with one win to their name, are currently at number 5 on the points table.
