Georgetown University Law Center has announced the winners of this year's annual?Paul R. Dean Alumni award. The list includes?District of Columbia Superior Court Judge?Anita Josey-Herring, along with four others, honored for their outstanding legal practice.
Josey-Herring became an associate judge in 1997 and has served in the civil, criminal and family divisions of the Court. Previously, she was a presiding judge of the family court division. Before joining the bench, she was a trial attorney and deputy director of the D.C. Public Defender Service.
The other four honorees, to be recognized at an October 20 event, include John "Sean" Coffey, Stephanie Sandlin, David "Duke" Reyes, and R. Seth Williams.
Coffey is a trial lawyer in D.C. who co-founder of BlackRobe Capital Partners, a private equity fund that invests in large-scale commercial litigation and arbitration claims.?Previously, he was an assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York.
Sandlin is the general counsel and vice president for corporate development at Raven Industries. From 2004 to 2011, she served as Democratic congresswoman from South Dakota. Sandlin focuses her practice on advancing public policy on agriculture, renewable energy, rural economic development, food safety and nutrition.
Reyes currently serves as the chief executive officer of Reyes Beverage Group and is one of the owners and practicing partner in Reyes Holdings operations.
Since 2010, Williams has served as the district attorney of the city of Philadelphia. He is the first African-American district attorney in the city. He was an assistant district attorney for 10 years before his election.
The awards will be presented during the law center?s reunion weekend.
