Writing a new chapter. | Music City Interactive

Life really is like a book with a bunch of different chapters. Early on, our parents are the authors, making decisions for us by slowly helping us learn how to make good choices that lead to solid content within those chapters. As we get older, we are given more room to do the writing, with a guiding hand from our teachers and mentors. The best part about the early chapters in our book is the big eraser.

Now that I am a grown-up (most of the time), I?ve learned from previous chapters in my book of life and know when it?s time to end one and start another.

When I moved to Franklin in May of 2009, I worked with my brother at Primarily Rye and learned more in 6 months about the creative industry than most people do in years. I loved working with Matthew, but didn?t love the aspect of being a business owner. So I carefully wrapped up that beautiful chapter and moved into the corporate world as the Marketing Coordinator for Bone McAllester Norton.

The past 17 months have been wonderful and I am so grateful for what I?ve learned in the legal world of marketing. Working for lawyers in actually quite interesting, and very helpful for those chapters that may include a divorce or? broken engagement. (See previous blogs.) The people at Bonelaw are warm and kind and treat each other like a family. I will miss the friendships I?ve made and all the fun I?ve had working in downtown Nashville. But my heart is telling me to listen to my creative side and to spend more time with my daughter.

My brother has been the Creative Director at Cabedge Design, LLC for about 5 months.? To be honest with you, when he got that job I was really jealous. He has flexible hours, has the ability to work from home, leads a team of seriously talented people and is part of building a company from almost the beginning. Turns out, Cabedge needed someone who can bring in new clients and manage the ones they have. Guess who really likes to build connections and create strong relationships? Yep. I do!

With the help of Matthew, I was introduced to the leadership of Cabedge and its parent company Atiba, and it was apparent to everyone that this chapter was in outline format, ready to be composed.

This next chapter brings me much closer to home, where I can get an extra couple of hours with Clair each day rather than fighting traffic into Nashville. I get to work with Matthew again, which is really one of the best parts about this job. My role as Director of Business Development and Account Management will allow me to continue to connect people and speak on behalf of a brand I believe in. I?m hoping to get back into public speaking and revive my creative spirit that at one time, I didn?t even know was there.

The early chapters of my book were not written by me. Even when I was married, I wasn?t the author. With editing help from friends and family, I?ve become a much better writer. And the next chapter is up to me. I know I still need my eraser, and my inner circle of editors, but the content is strong and the theme is positive. I?m ready to write my next chapter.
